Peaceful Protests
The citizens of Slatteryville (a.k.a. the students in Kim Slattery’s 3rd grade class) learned the meaning of peaceful protesting as part of their Social Studies unit on communities. The students elected classmates as their city council members and drafted a proposal to add a swimming pool to their community. Not all citizens were in favor of the new pool so they held a demonstration outside city hall. Signs declaring their support or opposition communicated their opinions.
